Mission Statement: It is the mission of
Operation Outreach to promote character education,
skills development, and personal growth by providing
opportunities for students to learn how to build stronger
schools, families, and communities. Operation Outreach
continues to strive as a student directed service
provision program designed to enhance a student's
intellectual, social, emotional, and physical devlopment
through skills building/character education programs.
Program Overview: Operation Outreach was created
and initiated by Travis O. Bonner, S.S.P., School
Psychologist in 1999 and has proven to be a integral part
of student's lives, as participants have improved
academic, social, emotional, and physical skills. The
program was initially designed as a school-based
intervention, addressing various needs among at-risk
students between ages 5 to 10 but has grown
substantially over the years, currently assisting over 100
students within grades 5 -12. The program now serves as
a mentoring, educational, community service, and
developmetal program including workshop sessions,
field trips, and experiences intended to assist students
with academic/social concerns, school based issues, as
well as, personal growth. Throughout the school year,
students receive training in topics to include but not
limited to:
-Social Skills -Communication Skills - Academics
-Anger Management -CPR/First Aid certification -Etiquette Skills -Goal Setting -Career Choices
-Interview Skills - Alcohol/Drug Awareness
Students within the program have the unique
opportunity to learn citizenship via our semi-annual
Adopt-A-Road project, recycling initiative, and
partneship with Keep South Fulton Beautiful. The
program also sponsors an annual Behavior Basketball
Tournament, Community Health & Wellness Fair, as
well as, a grand and elegant Debutante Ball.
Target Population: Operation Outreach serves at-risk
students between grades 5 - 12 with "no" to "significant"
academic, social, emotional, behavioral, or school
attendance difficulties. Identified students may also
participate via self-referrals, teacher/parent referrals,
direct observations, high number of in/out of school
suspensions, difficulties with academic assignments,
or those students displaying difficulties with attendance
at school.
Criteria for Participation: Students selected as program
participants must attend at least 90% of all workshops,
community service projects, and training as directed by
the program staff. The program schedule is generated at
the begining of the school year which includes activities,
events, and training sessions until the end of the school
year. Students must also attempt to maintain positive
peer and teacher interactions, satisfactory academic
performance, school/classroom attendance, and a
reduction of negative behavioral incidents on school
grounds.
Goals and Objectives: At the conclusion of the school
year, Operation Outreach program participants will
display a 75% decrease in classroom disruptions; 75%
decrease in office referrals; 75% decrease within in/out
of school suspensions; minimum 90% school attendance
rate; and minimum 75% school achievement rate.
Supervision: The program will include 1 Program
Director, 6 Program Mentors, and includes support from
the School Psychologist, School Social Worker, School
Counselors, and various classroom teachers.
